Imagine getting on your horse and riding straight into a 3000 acre forest, steeped in history and heritage. The Ashford Castle Estate once home to the Guinness family and millionaires playground in the 19th Century, plays host to underground rivers, caves, castles, towers, abbeys and ringforts, as well as some of Irelands oldest species of wild life, red squirrels and pine martins.
At Ashford Equestrian Centre (located beside Irelands island village, Cong on the Mayo/Galway border, 45 minute drive from Galway City and Westport) we aim to give you a local insight to the history and natural features that abound. Whether you are a cautious beginner, or a veteran of the saddle and fancy a fast canter with breath taking lakeshore scenery, we can cater for you.
We have bred Connemara ponies and Irish draughts for over 25 years in this family business and they feature heavily in our stables. Half and full day trail rides are available as well as lessons in our outdoor and indoor arena. We can provide bike hire, archery and clay pigeon shooting on site.
There is a wide variety of accommodation stretching from hostels to a 5 star hotel within walking distance.
