35 HOURS FREE COMPUTER TRAINING - GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN HOW TO USE THE INTERNET / SEND EMAILS
OR IMPROVE YOUR COMMUNICATION/IT SKILLS.
Skills for Work is a national training initiative from the Department of Education & Skills (DES). It offers part-time/full-time employees the opportunity to participate in a range of courses delivered by the ETB (formerly VEC) system.
Groups of between 6 and 8 employees are accommodated on customised programmes, very much needs based, ideally on the employer's site if wifi is available. If this is not possible, the location will be arranged by ETB. Cluster groups are also formed but within the same sectors, for example, retail assistants from different stores. Self employed may also participate provided that they meet the criteria.
Programmes run over 28 or 35 hours broken up into 2 ½ -3 hours per week. Usually a set time, day and location is agreed by the group and the service provider. The entry criteria is for those who have few or no educational qualifications. Leaving Certificate will be considered on foot of an assessment. Many employees with full Leaving do not have the basic IT skills that are now job requirements. Following a short assessment they may present a profile that fits into a current course. The same will apply to a person with diploma. Individual cases are looked at. Please do not hesitate to contact local regional co-ordinators with any enquiry.
